A county of contrasts, Essex is steeped in history with an abundance of unique architectural, historic and natural treasures – offering everything that is great about the coast, the countryside and market towns in close proximity.

Audley End House

Explore this decadent Jacobean mansion house and meet the staff in the Victorian Service Wing. Wander the tranquil gardens created by 'Capability' Brown, and enjoy stunning views across the unspoilt Essex countryside. Then gallop across to see the horses in the Victorian stable yard, and run, jump and climb in the children's play area.

Tiptree Museum

In quiet corners of the preserve factory he carefully stored away pictures, documents and redundant machines. Then, as the business approached its Centenary celebrations, "Mr. John", as he is known, asked for room to display some of his hoard.

Firstsite

Our integrated programme of work includes projects, exhibitions and publications by established and emerging artists, as well as extensive learning opportunities and artist's support initiatives. Over the last fifteen years firstsite has gained a strong reputation by presenting ambitious work to new audiences in the East of England and beyond.

East Anglian Railway Museum

The EARM is a living heritage site based at Chappel railway station. We are situated on the edge of breathtaking Constable Country and adjacent to one of the largest railway viaducts in Eastern England. Our original Victorian buildings, restored trains, carriages and Signal Boxes tell a unique story of railways and people's lives in East Anglia from the 1840s to the present day.

Claudius Gateway

A stunning coffee house in the heart of Britain’s oldest recorded town, Claudius Gateway is one of Colchester’s newest tourist attractions. Roman ruins, lit up and visible behind glass, form the backdrop of the stylish coffee house which has set to become an important tourist attraction in the town.
